Indigo is insoluble in water. Traditionally used dyes are based on reduction through hydrosulphites, which are extremely polluting and hazardous to health.
‘Smart Indigo’ uses only indigo pigment, caustic soda, water and electricity: it is an electrochemical process, so it does not use hydrosulphites and is the most responsible and independent way to dye denim.
Peppino Peppino started out as a blog, written by Simona Testucci, dedicated to denim brands outside of the mainstream.
Although the denim market was saturated, she believed that there was so much to explore, especially when it came to shapes and fits. She decided to address this void in the market, and in 2019, in a small one-bedroom apartment in Amsterdam, the line was born. Juggling a day job in corporate while working on Peppino Peppino in the evening and weekends, Simona created collections that addressed specific personal needs while fully representing her sense of style.
In 2022, Simona partnered with fellow denim enthusiast Suzanne Perrenod, and moved the company Viareggio, Italy. Making intelligent and responsible choices in materials and washing techniques, they produce the line in Italy using Italian raw materials. From the initial concept to final quality inspection, all of their production begins and ends in Italy. Working season after season with a dedicated and highly valued team, the collections are curated with a conscience, fostering longevity and delivering classic, everlasting products that get better with everyday use.
